Just yesterday, the Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. Japan in cooperation with Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. Philippines held an early Christmas feeding and gift-giving program for the children attending CJFI’s Day Care Center in Sitio Bamboo, Brgy. Andap, New Bataan, Compostela Valley on Wednesday, November 21, 2018. The children were very delighted, as they entered the Day Care Center, to see their Christmas presents wrapped in large and colorful Christmas paper on one side of the wall.
This Day Care Center was funded and built by Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. Japan in cooperation with Children’s Joy Foundation, Inc. in the Philippines in the year 2015.
According to Ms. Jehan Faith Bagtian, the Day Care worker, the previous Day Care building was destroyed by Typhoon Pablo in 2012 and since then, the children have to move from one place to another depending on which venue was available to hold their Day Care activities. It was a very difficult situation that Ms. Jehan began to question if she should still continue teaching the children.
She said that the Children’s Joy Foundation came as a very big blessing to their barangay. Apart from providing a building where the Day Care children can attend classes, CJFI also provides school supplies and learning facilities for the children every year. 90% of these children beneficiaries are “lumads” – they come from indigenous families native to Mindanao.
Soon, CJFI Japan will also be helping another Day Care Center located in Sitio Onion, Brgy. Andap by providing the materials to be used for the Day Care building’s renovation. During the ocular inspection, it was found that the Day Care worker had to put a wooden pole in the middle of the building to prevent the ceiling from dropping to the floor, which is dangerous for the children attending the Day Care Center. CJFI hopes to begin the renovation early next week,
These programs and services provided by CJFI to the community of Brgy. Andap, New Bataan is part of its Early Childhood Development program or ECD. According to the United Nations, ECD is crucial to every child’s development and should be every country’s top priority to help achieve the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
